coffee table books.

People say the internet are replacing books/newspapers/magazines and all the rest. However, even it means I become an author, publisher and book binder to do so, I will never see the demise of coffee table books.

Not that I think it will come to that. There is something so special about those perfectly-kept books that a screen could never replace.

With the rainy weather Melbourne has seen recently, it's time to stay warm and lust over those stunning photos. Here's a couple of my favourites..

Back in 2008 (or '09..it's been a while!) I dragged my mum all the way up to Bendigo for a day trip to see the exhibition that lead this book. Seeing the exhibition, and that amount of couture just inches from myself, was when I first realised the extent to how much I loved it.
Sure these days you hardly, if ever, will get the opportunity to dress in such a way unless you're a Hollywood star but a girl can always dream. It was a completely different world, a magical Disneyland for fashion.

These books are part of the definition of a coffee table book. They only cost about $30 each and sit proudly on top of my bookshelf. Produced as part of a trio for Harpers Bazaar over a period of 3 years, I never managed to get my hands on the first one (Black) however I treasure them all the same (even if it is just half filled with advertising.)

My best friends bought me this as a birthday present a couple of years ago. It's Chanel, I don't that requires description.

You would already know my love for Audrey if you've read this blog in the past.
The left one is a few years old, I saved up all my money to buy it and still cherish it.
It's titled Audrey Hepburn treasures and it really isn't lying...there is little pockets through out with reproductions of notes, scripts, posters & others.
The right was bought for me by one of my most favourite people, it's just feeding an addiction really but I love it 11/10.

What are some of your favourite coffee table books?

  1. All of my books are pretty much packed in storage at the moment, but I tend to enjoy vintage interior design books the most and per-zines, there's something about reading zines that is really special, the thought that someone has made their own thoughts into a lil book and published it themselves. Kind of like blogs I guess :)
