Tourist vs Fashion.

It's very hard being in a city as stylish as Paris (especially when Paris fashion week is on - I'll score two whilst I'm here!) and dressing for a full on day of being a tourist which requires practicality and comfort.

In some aspects, all rules have gone out the window. My bulky camera bag carries all my necessities for the day, regardless of whether it matches my outfit or not (although I have been eyeing off a cute Longchamp backpack, it won't fit my camera though).

Yet the main issue is footwear.

I have worn ballet flats a lot. A LOT. So much that they're going to fall to pieces soon enough and I'll be forced into buying some more that will be uncomfortable for the first month and then I won't need them for comfort anymore because I'll be home and not walking for hours on end. Converses also work well but do not match with everything so they have to be a 'sometimes shoe'.
Once I'm lazing on a beach somewhere in Spain, shoes won't be such an issue because I can just wear sandals - but in Paris where I have walked everywhere, shoes cause more kerfuffles.

I'm lucky in that being here for a month means I can have a couple of tourist days, and the rest of my time spent living like the locals, minus the language sadly. So I have tourist outfits and I have Paris outfits. It's a very tough life I'm living ya know.

Today I went over to the island in between the left and right bank, Ile de la Cite, to see the Notre Dame and have a wander around.
The sun was finally out (no rain, rejoice!) so a loose skirt made for a good choice.

And here is a lovely little cafe I saw on one of the backstreets of Ile de la Cite, they'd lined the area just around it with flowers and plants. I didn't stop here but I wish I had, it's positively gorgeous!

  1. go buy bensimon sneakers! everyone in paris wears them (by "everyone" i mean actual normal parisians, not just the ones who fly in or dress up for fashion week ;) )

they are so comfy and cute, and they come in a million different colours. from memory, i picked up a pair on rue de seine in the 7th, otherwise there's a few store in the 3rd/4th that i spotted.

    have fun in pariee,

  2. It's so hard to find semi-fashionable footwear when you're a tourist. I ended up wearing a pair of cork sandals most of the time in Europe a few years ago. They weren't super cool, but they made walking around the cobblestone streets much more comfortable than it would have been in thongs or ballet flats.

That cafe looks so gorgeous - exactly what Paris should look like!
