Catch up..

I'm stuck in bed with a cold forced to watch episodes of 'Girls' back to back so excuse the lack of new content recently.

Last Saturday I attended the 7-11 Pink Ribbon Cup and although none of the horses I bet on even placed, it was a fun day for all (in case the photos don't give it away, the highlight of our day was most definitely the photo booth).

I wore dress from Witchery and millinery from Target (cue gasps, $10 worth of bargain right there).

beauty-ful

beauty
I try and keep a very simple lifestyle when it comes to all things face (when I worked in retail, I used to get in trouble for not wearing makeup - even though I had a full face on). Too much of anything is a bad move so I always try only wearing makeup 5 days a week (even your face needs a day off) and only using heat styling tools a few times a month. That said, there's a few things I can-live-without-but-really-don't-want-to:

1) I've been using Sheercover for 5 years, which is the longest relationship I've ever had, and still believe this is the best mineral makeup of all the makeups ever. Occasionally I'll try another foundation but nothing works for my skin like this does. You might find your face is a little dry the first few times you use it, but it will adjust and leave you with that perfect glow without looking like you're wearing any makeup.

2) My other ultimate product is Mario Badescu Facial Spray. It's super reasonably priced, gentle on your skin and is great for setting mineral makeup and as a 'pick-me-up' during the day. I also wouldn't fly anywhere without this.

3) Napoleon China Doll foundation is exclusively when I have to have a fancy face of makeup for a fancy event. It's way too heavy for me to use everyday but really does do what it says - give you porcelain china doll skin.

4) I'm one of those really boring people that doesn't experiment with beauty very often. That includes my hair style, colour or my fragrance. Daily, I'll be wearing DKNY Be Delicious (because who doesn't want to smell like apples all day?) and for fancy shmancy occasions I'll spray on some J'adore by Dior.

5) Just like a LBD, the perfect red lipstick is something every woman needs to own. I use Chanel Rogue Coco in Gabrielle (19) but recommend you visit a counter to get a sales assistant to advise you on the perfect red to suit your skin tone and hair colour.

6) Finally comes the pièce de résistance of this post, the mother of all hair curlers and the only thing I'm willing to suffer 220 degree burns for. I've spent years trying to get my hair to stay curly but all heat styling tools have just dropped within a few hours and we all know it's no fun having to sleep with a head covered in little tight buns all night. I was recommended the Muk curling stick a while ago and haven't looked back since. This thing is ridiculously easy to use (just don't drop it on your foot, as I painfully learned a few weeks ago) and curls stay put for days afterwards - even after brushing your hair. If you only had $100 in the bank, you wouldn't be wasting your money buying this.

Keeping it light.

This cropped sleeve Gorman knit is perfect for the in-between weather Melbourne gets oh so frequently. I usually stick to grey and black when the weather cools down, but this too-cute jumper has restored my love of the lighter side.

River Island x The Iconic Runway Presentation

Last Friday I attended the River Island Runway Show presented by The Iconic as a part of the Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival.

River Island is one of the leading high street brands in the UK and as a British expat, I always get extra-excited when a UK label arrives down under.

International runway model Ajak Deng returned to Australia to open the show which was an explosion of colour, loud prints and energy. A surprise finish performance by Kiyomi Vella topped off the afternoon.

My favorite piece in the collection - this striped cross-over top.
