Keeping it light.

This cropped sleeve Gorman knit is perfect for the in-between weather Melbourne gets oh so frequently. I usually stick to grey and black when the weather cools down, but this too-cute jumper has restored my love of the lighter side.

Summer Sandals

These aren't the comfiest pair of shoes I've purchased*, but they are one of the cutest. It's all about compromise, right?

SHOES: Timeless (from ASOS - now sold out)
*I made the stupid mistake of wearing these out for the first time when I had to walk around the city ALL DAY. Safe to say my feet were covered in band-aids and blisters for the next week..

Feeling like Italy

Ah, white and tan. What a beautiful combination made in fashion heaven! Whenever I'm wearing white and tan together, I feel like I should be sitting outside at a cafe, somewhere along the Italian coast, surrounded by chic Italian people (no doubt wearing their whites as well).

Side note: These are the comfiest heels you will purchase this summer. Honestly. They also share a name with my favourite Italian wine region which makes them even more suited for a trip to Italy!

The White Shirt.

There is nothing you cannot do with a white shirt. It can be casual or corporate and goes with pretty much everything in your wardrobe. If you don't have one then stop reading and go out and buy one right now!

It's one of my key pieces when I'm having a 'I have nothing to wear' day (which is why you'll find me wearing one very regularly). Today was one of those days - but it's nothing a white shirt, pair of ballet flats and jeans can't fix!

Crown Oaks Day

After the perfect weather for both Derby Day and Cup Day, I was so looking forward to Oaks Day last Thursday. Unfortunately the wind came through and blew 40,000 ladies hair to pieces, but it was still a great day of racing all the same.

Thanks to Yellowglen, we spent the day seeking refuge from the cold in Yellowglen House and to no ones surprise, drank enough champagne to make sure we forgot about the wind (however I'm happy to say, no stilettos were taken off and carried home as a result).

Weekend Wear.

I saw this top in a notoriously overpriced boutique a while back and loved it - but knowing I probably wouldn't wear it for more than 12 months, I never bought it. Then, in the spirit of 'good things come to those who wait',  about a month ago it popped up on my sidebar in eBay for a bargain $8 from an eBay shop based in China. I decided that it was obliviously meant to be and 10 days later it arrived in my letterbox! It won my heart not only for it's insanely cheap price tag, but also because it's the perfect statement for any plain outfit.

Breaking the Black (without breaking the bank)

I love black. It's classic and easy to wear - everybody can pull off an all black outfit and look chic. Yet I've heard a number of people refer to it as 'boring, depressing and gothic'.

While I'm happy to agree to disagree with those people (who are usually seen wearing head-to-toe hot pink and faux smiles), it is good to break up the black occasionally. That doesn't mean you have to go out and buy a whole new winter wardrobe full of colour - my number one rule in fashion is that accesories are everything.

Keep a curated wardrobe full of good quality pieces and then update your wardrobe each season with accessories; think costume jewellry, scarves, bags and brightly coloured lipsticks. Not only does it mean you can have a different look each day but it also saves you a fortune. If you're wary of introducing colour then begin with more neutral & subtle shades like cream, tan and latte.

It's time for the L'Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival again! The main events run from 8-15 March but if you can't make that then there is plenty on with the cultural program running for the whole of March.
Visit http://www.lmff.com.au/ for more details.
See you there! xo

It's a Jungle Out There: The Sequel.

First I showed a pair to make me tall, now a pair to keep me short.
My Topshop slipper shoes finally arrived and I'm loving them sick.

Transeasonal Clothing.

One good was to cut down on the clothes budget is to buy clothes that will take you from Summer to Winter.

This dress is going to be perfect for that - it's cool enough to wear on a summers day but won't leave me cold when winter comes around when I pair it with a coat and scarf.

Plus it's definitely going to be coming back to Europe with me later this year as it's comfy day wear when strolling around Paris!

Garden Party on my dress.

I bought this 50's inspired handmade dress from a market back in November 2011 and it was instant love. It has the gorgeous style of the full skirt from the 1950's but with a modern shorter hemline.

The bright colours just smile at you on a nice summery day.

It's a Jungle Out There.

I was never a big fan of animal prints. Others could pull it off well but I just felt tacky covered in spots or stripes.

However I seem to have had a change of heart and this is just one of a number of shoe and clothes purchases in the last couple of months that shows off its spots.

Plus - they were a bargain $10 at a local market so how could I not buy them?

Sailing Attire.

The outfits I saw on Saturday were more typical of a millionaire in Monaco than a yachtsman sailing around the bay in Melbourne however they suited the scene perfectly.

I kept asking myself what one wears when it comes to sailing style and all that came to mind was nautical stripes. Not wanting to be so cliche, I opted for a block colour in bright blue instead and my only regret was not having done a bun for my hair due to the wind!

Palazzo Pants

blog 7.11 4
I love these trousers but never wear them enough. I think in the 7 or 8 months I've had these, they've only been worn about 3 times - why I still don't know, they're so comfortable!
I normally wear them with a simple black or white t-shirt but decided to mix it up with this shirt for a different look.

This oversized clutch has been in my wardrobe for years but again I barely use it...sometimes it's nice to shop your own wardrobe and discover some old treasures. :)

Weekend Wear.

IMG_3938

With jeans being quite a boring (but nonetheless completely practical) piece in most of our wardrobes, I like to mix things up with wearing some coloured trousers in the place of jeans as a part of my casual wardrobe.
Paired with a basic t-shirt and ballet flats this look is perfect for coffee or shopping, but it can also be dressed up to become great office attire.

Sass & Bide Sale: PT 2

I was both shocked and ecstatic when I found this dress at the Sass & Bide warehouse sale. Shocked as I went on the last day and couldn't believe that at only $50 there would still be so many of these beautiful dresses left, and ecstatic that I made a saving of $500 off the RRP!

IMG_3782IMG_3490
I also bought this belt there for $10, but styled it as a head piece for these photos - what's better than multitasking your accessories?!
